How would you describe your subject matter or the content of your work?
Imaginary landscapes.
What mediums do you work in?
Mixed media currently. Most of my work is a combination of plaster and fabric as the base and soft pastels, charcoal, and watercolor for the surface work. In the past, I worked with steel and bronze which I hope to get back to one day.
Can you talk about your process?
The plaster and fabric base is created with a fast, intuitively uncontrolled process, while the surface work is carefully composed in reaction to the base, revealing all the subtle substructures and complicated textural patterns. My interest is in highlighting the patterns that seem to emerge as well as the perceived imperfections. I draw inspiration from the complex and perfect compositions found in nature and attempt to capture that design as well as its imperceptible or constant movement.
How has it evolved or changed over the years?
I started these plaster fabric combinations back in school 15 years ago. The highly textured surface acted far more as the backdrop for my paintings of mostly abstracted figures and interior spaces. I was intrigued by the sense of movement the surface provided and simply the challenge of painting into plaster. The surface is no longer the backdrop, but instead guides everything.
What are you currently inspired by?
Landscapes of Iceland.
Is there something you are currently working on, or are excited about starting that you can tell us about?
In the near future I will be experimenting with using actual aerial views to guide the work.
Is there something you hope the people seeing your work will take away?
I hope people see My attempt to imitate elements in nature.
Fun Facts:
What is something many people don’t know about you?
I’m extremely sentimental and cry easily over things such as reading The Little Engine that Could to our daughter, videos about odd animal friendships ( especially one dedicated goat helping his blind horse friend) and Whitney Houston’s National Anthem, and much, much more!

Piece of advice:
I recently heard some great advice and thought “man, that’s great advice!” but I don’t remember what it was. Guess I won’t be using it. And an oldie, but a goodie, “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make”.
