This summer, Hamtramckan Chris Schneider and myself explored several midwestern states, to photograph the small towns and rural landscapes of the often-overlooked American heartland. Partially funded by a grant from Detroit’s Red Bull House of Art, we visited eight states, and stopped in over 50 towns.

Detroit Musical Stories from S. Kay Young
The mid-late 70’s and 80’s in Detroit were golden, amazing. Music was fun, important to our lives. Our crew was 12-15 people, always showing up together, we were the party. Between us, we shared a great deal of talent and love, along with a fierce sense of respect and loyalty toward each other. 40 plus years later, we are still close friends, although many of us are no longer on this side.
